Raw Thai Feast – June 19th
We’re excited to announce the next raw food dinner at Burnt Stew Café is Tuesday, June 19th.
Gourmet raw food chefs Sarah Uy and Priscilla Levac, and Earthsave Whistler, invite you to an evening of food for the soul and food for thought.
MENU – Carrot and coconut soup, spring rolls, pad Thai and crepes with cashew cream!
Come and experience the incredible flavours and delights of raw food, while supporting a worthwhile cause. The event is raising funds for Band Together BC, a community engagement campaign aimed at capturing perspectives related to the tar sands and fostering dialogue that envisions a clean energy future. Kim Slater, from Band Together BC, will be the guest speaker for the event and $5 from every ticket sold will be donated to her cause.
Head chef Sarah Uy was inspired to support Kim’s cause and help in any way she can, “I love what Kim is doing. Running across the Province to raise awareness and empower communities to envision a clean energy future is not an easy task. I want to help any way I can, because she’s doing all that she can to create solutions in a positive and peaceful manner. I feel that pairing Kim’s intention to create dialogue around energy with a plant-based, raw food dinner creates food for thought and offers food for the soul and spirit all in one evening.”
When Kim was invited to take part in the raw food dinner event, she was thrilled. “Band Together BC is a community engagement campaign that aims to convey perspectives and personal stories related to the tar sands and explore alternatives to expanding them. As I run through northern communities this summer, I will be asking people what they think a clean energy future should look like, while considering alternatives to further developing the tar sands.
I am very excited about organizing a gathering to discuss clean energy that takes place around another form of clean energy – raw, organic, plant-based food.
An organic, plant-based diet is largely free of processed additives and fossil fuels derivatives, which reminds us that alternatives to a fossil fuel based economy exist, and can be deliciously satisfying! I would like to use the dinner as an opportunity to shape the dialogue with those attending giving me their thoughts on the questions I should be asking; good ways of framing this complex topic; and creative ways of capturing / relaying the outcomes of the dialogue.”
The meal will be 100% plant-based and therefore suitable for vegetarians, vegans and those on a gluten-free diet. People with nut allergies should alert the chef when purchasing tickets. The event is limited to 40 people and tickets sell out quickly, so it is recommended to buy tickets early.
